Gabrielle Johnson was born in Palmer, Alaska and began training at the age of seven at the Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy under the direction of Michelangelo and Farah Canale. In the Summer of 2008, she attended the Rosella Hightower Summer Program in Cannes, France under the direction of Monique Loudiere.
In 2008-2009, Johnson competed in the Youth American Grand Prix placing second runner up in the classical category of the semi-finals in San Francisco, California. Continuing the competition in New York finals, she was awarded a scholarship to the Bolshoi summer program. Johnson was accepted into the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre and invited to attend the Summer Intensive at ABT in 2009. Johnson was cast as Swanilda in Copp�lia, for the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at ABT�s spring performance.
Johnson attended the ABT Summer Intensive and worked as a counselor for the Young Dancer Summer Workshop in the S ummer of 2011. She continued her training at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School for the 2010-2011 school year, performing a pas de trois in Susan Jaffe's choreography, We Insist, and Jerusalem Divertissement, choreographed by Raymond Lukens. In September 2011, Johnson performed in the Young Stars of Ballet Gala in Indianapolis.
Johnson joined the ABT Studio Company in September of 2011, joined the main Company as an apprentice in October 2011 and became a member of the corps de ballet in May 2012.
