Sem Sjouke was born in Haarlem, The Netherlands. He studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague from September 2004 until July 2011. In 2011 he became a finalist in the dance competition the Prix de Lausanne. After graduating he auditioned at American Ballet Theatre in New York. He joined the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in 2011 under the direction of Franco De Vita.
Sejouke was appointed an apprentice with American Ballet Theatre in November 2012.
