All-Prokofiev Celebration

The great composer Sergei Prokofiev is celebrated in this repertory program that not only features a World Premiere, On the Dnieper, with choreography by Alexei Ratmansky, but also includes the ABT Company Premiere of James Kudelka's Désir, a pure-dance ballet set to excerpts from Prokofiev's Waltz Suite and Cinderella. The New York Times said, "One ballet not to miss is James Kudelka's Désir with a flamboyant but lyrical surge of passionate dancing and kinetic thrills. In an exceptional way, Mr. Kudelka has located the ecstatic core of the waltzes by Prokofiev that he has linked into a suite here."

Plus, in a fitting tribute to the centenary of the Ballet Russes, ABT's All-Prokofiev program culminates with St. Petersburg-native George Balanchine's masterful interpretation of the biblical parable, Prodigal Son, which was the last ballet he created for the Russian impresario Serge Diaghilev.
