ABT Student Examinations

All ABT Certified Teachers are eligible to present their students for examinations. For more information on how to become an ABT Certified Teacher, click here.

The ABT Affiliate Teacher is a level of distinction for ABT Certified Teachers that successfully present their students for examinations. ABT Affiliate Teachers who have maintained their status and presented three (3) consecutive successful sessions of exams will achieve the level of distinction of ABT NTC Fellow. For a current list of Affiliate Teachers and ABT NTC Fellows, click here.

An adjudicator from ABT's Artistic Board of Examiners will observe and evaluate the students in a class that is prepared in advance by their ABT Certified Teacher.

ABT Certified Teachers can fill out an 2018 Affiliate Examination Request Form online at least 3 months in advance (4 months for exams outside the US).

Please note: A $100 deposit is required for all Student Examination requests. If ABT is able to accommodate your request, this deposit will be applied to your examination fees. If ABT is unable to accommodate your request, the deposit will be refunded. If you choose to withdraw your request once it has been approved, you will forfeit the deposit.

We recommend that you present a minimum of 3 classes, in any level. It is possible to present students for examinations at ABT’s headquarters in New York. Presenting teachers will be contacted by the Affiliate Examinations Coordinator to organize details of examinations. Please be aware that examination scheduling is subject to the availability of the adjudicators.

All participating students receive an evaluation rubric outlining their proficiency both technically and artistically with comments from the examiner. Students successfully passing their examination will receive an official certificate listing the level of the examination class that they took along with their level of distinction. Students can pass successfully on 4 levels: pass, pass with merit, pass with honors and pass with high honors.

Presenting teachers will receive personalized feedback from their adjudicator and a letter stating whether they have successfully achieved or maintained their Affiliate Teacher status.
