A plotless ballet for six dancers, Symphonic Variations was
given its World Premiere by the Sadler’s Wells (now Royal) Ballet
at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, on April 24, 1946,
danced by Margot Fonteyn, Pamela May, Moira Shearer, Micheal Somes,
Henry Danton and Brian Shaw.
Symphonic Variations was given its United States premiere by
the same company at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York on October
12, 1949, danced by the same cast except that John Hart replaced Henry
Danton.
Symphonic Variations was given its American Ballet Theatre
Company Premiere at the Civic Opera House, Chicago on March 20, 1992,
danced by Cynthia Harvey, Ethan Brown, Ashley Tuttle,
Wes Chapman, Sandra Brown and Parrish Maynard.
