David Lichine 1910-72
was a Russian-born dancer
and choreographer who
trained with Egorova and
Nijinska. He began his
performing career with Ida
Rubenstein's company in
1928. He danced briefly
with Anna Pavlova's
company but is was as a
star of de Basil's Ballets
Russes that he is best
remembered. He created
roles in Cotillon, Jeux
des enfants, Les
Presages and his own
Prote and
Graduation Ball.
He was also a notable
interpreter of the role of
the Faun in L'Aprés
midi d'un faun. He
began to choreograph in
1933 and his ballets
include Le Pavillon,
Francesca da Rimini,
a version of The
Prodigal Son and
Le Recontre. In
addition to American
Ballet Theatre, he worked
as choreographer and
dancer for the Teatro
Coln, Buenos Aires and
Ballet des Champs
Elyses. |
