BIOGRAPHY
Michael Chybowski’s most recent lighting designs have been the New York productions of Wit, A Skull in Connemara at the Roundabout, Cymbeline at the Delacorte in Central Park, and Mark Morris’ 20th Anniversary season at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. To this point, he has designed the lighting for over 30 of the Mark Morris Dance Group’s pieces. He has also just returned from lighting the premiere of Morris’ A Garden for the San Francisco Ballet.

For the past three seasons, Chybowski was the resident designer at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, where he lit In the Jungle of Cities, The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew, Loot, and The Wild Duck, among others. Chybowski has also worked with Laurie Anderson on her productions of Moby Dick and Stories from the Nerve Bible, which have toured internationally after being seen in New York.

Chybowski received an Obie for Sustained Excellence in 1999, as well as the American theatre Wing Design Award and a second Lucille Award for his work on Wit. His upcoming projects include productions in Seattle, Baltimore, and at the Long Wharf Theatre. The lighting for Gong is his first project with American Ballet Theatre since Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes (1988).
