Private Light

Katharina Schlipf was born in Rottweil, Germany in 1982. In 2004 she began her studies in stage and costume design under Professor Martin Zehetgruber and Werner Pick at the State Academy of Fine Arts, Stuttgart. She received her degree in 2010, featuring her work in Georg Büchner’s play Danton’s Death.

Schlipf currently resides in Stuttgart, working as a freelance stage and costume designer. For her first work as a professional she designed scenery, costumes and props for Demis Volpi’s Carnival of the Animals, a John Cranko School, Stuttgart production.

Schlipf’s other work includes scenery for Volpi’s Little Monsters, a production for the Stuttgart Ballet, and Capricen for the Baden State Theater, Karlsruhe. She also works with opera stage director Lydia Steier for whom she has designed stage settings for Saul at the Oldenburg State Theatre, and Aida at the Heidelberg Theatre and Orchestra.

Private Light was Schlipf’s first work for American Ballet Theatre.
