In January 2008, ABT launched Ballet for the New Audience,
a workshop series devoted to educating and developing young audiences
in private schools. BNA is an extension of ABT’s award-winning
Make a Ballet, a student-driven program that exposes and
enriches participants through the creation of an original dance production.
The three-workshop creative residency pairs arts professionals
with students. All residencies take place in the schools and conclude
with a final creative workshop in ABT studios with an observation
of a rehearsal with ABT II or the JKO School, a design project with
a costume designer, and a presentation of their work in a studio
setting.
| The goals for BNA are to: |
- Introduce classical ballet to young people.
- Foster an appreciation for the ballet and the performing
arts.
- Develop and educate future dance audiences.
|
| Schools participating in the 2008 Ballet for the New Audience

- Brick Church School, New York, NY
- Brearley School, New York, NY

truly wonderful experience. The workshop is by far the best
I’ve seen as an educator for the past 13 years.”
