Labanotation This is a system of dance
notation invented by the
Hungarian-born teacher
Rudolf von Laban. This
system has been developed
and perfected by the Dance
Notation Bureau, which was
founded in New York in
1940 and introduced the
term in 1953. Many ballets
have been notated by the
Bureau, which has compiled
a library of works in
Labanotation, including
the previous edition of
the present book (notated
by Allan
Miles).
![]() Notation There is no universally
accepted system of
recording the choreography
of ballets although many
systems of dance notation
have been devised by
dancers and
choreographers. At
present, there are two
systems of notation in
general use, Labanotation
and Benesh
notation. |
