In 1999, with support from the Empire State Partnership program of
the New York State Council on the Arts and the State Department of
Education, ABT began a collaboration with the Martha Graham School
of Contemporary Dance, and the Nassau County Museum of Art in the
Port Washington School District on Long Island. The focus of this
project is to integrate dance, music, theater and visual arts into
the regular curriculum. ABT Teaching Artists visit Weber Middle School
and work with the 6th grade students integrating dance into their
English class. Students then perform their 'Ulysses' ballet as part
of a day-long workshop in ABT's studios at 890 Broadway. In 2003,
ABT piloted a drama program to work with several classes in the 8th
grade. ABT also works with 4th and 5th grade students at the following
Port Washington District elementary schools: Sousa, Manorhaven, Guggenheim
and Daly.
