The Young Dancer Summer Workshop
This workshop provides the opportunity for serious young dancers, ages 9-11 and 12 year-olds at the beginning pointe level, to actively flourish in a professional, yet nurturing environment. The outstanding faculty members of ABT will provide unparalleled instruction, while remaining sensitive to the developmental needs of younger dancers.

Classes will be held from approximately 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Young Dancer Summer Workshop will focus on building a solid foundation in ballet technique and educating younger dancers about related topics in the world of dance. Students will begin each day with a ballet technique class, and will continue with pointe or pre-pointe work, boys’ class, character,jazz, modern and choreography. Workshops in nutrition, ballet terminology, dance history, classroom and rehearsal etiquette, and injury prevention will enhance the young dancer’s experience, providing well-rounded education and facilitating future artistic development. Please note: Dancers ages 9-11 and 12 year olds at the beginning pointe level exclusively interested in The Young Dancer Summer Workshop in New York, San Jose or Orange County should audition at one of the sites listed below or via video. Dancers who are 11 years old by their audition date who would like to be considered for the Summer Intensives as well as The Young Dancer Summer Workshop should audition with the 11-13/14 age group on the National Audition Tour. 11 and 12-year-old dancers exclusively interested in the Young Dancer Program should audition only at the sites below.

Auditions are open to all male and female students who have achieved basic levels of ballet training. Applicants for The Young Dancer Summer Workshop (New York) must be at least age nine on July 27, 2015. Applicants for The Young Dancer Summer Workshop (San Jose) must be at least age nine on June 15, 2015 and applicants for The Young Dancer Summer Workshop (Orange County) must be at least age nine on June 29, 2015. A registration fee of $35.00 should be paid in cash or by a check or money order made payable to ABT. Applicants must also bring a photograph showing first arabesque in center and an informal headshot (does not need to be professional) in order to register. Girls must wear full-length pink tights, black leotards and ballet slippers. Boys must wear white t-shirts, full-length black tights and ballet slippers.

Note: Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. More information regarding Pre-registration, including forms, will be available soon.

To audition by video, please visit the Accept’d online portal. The link to the Accept’d portal will be available in November. Video auditions will be accepted from Monday, December 1, 2014 through Saturday, January 31, 2015. The video application fee is $40 (credit card only). Students will also need to submit one informal headshot (does not need to be professional) and a photograph showing first arabesque in center. Video audition results will be emailed by Friday, February 20, 2015.
