12/9/2004 - American Ballet Theatre’s 2005 Summer Intensive National Audition Tour dates and locations were announced today by John Meehan, Artistic Director of Education and Training. Open to dance students ages 12 to 22, the auditions for ABT’s annual Summer Intensive training programs will take place in 21 cities nationwide, beginning January 8 in Austin, Texas and continuing through February 21, 2005.
Freed of London is the exclusive sponsor of the ABT National Audition Tour.
ABT’s Summer Intensives will be held in New York City (June 20-July 29); Detroit, Michigan (June 27-July 22); Tuscaloosa, Alabama (June 26-July 16); Austin, Texas (July 11-August 5) and Costa Mesa, California (August 1-19). By auditioning in one of the 21 cities, male and female students who have achieved intermediate or advanced levels of ballet training are eligible for any of the Summer Intensive sites. Students over the age of 18 will be considered for the New York Summer Intensive only. Dancers ages 16 to 20 years old may also audition for American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company, a pre-professional company of 12 young dancers, by notifying ABT officials at the time of registration. A registration fee of $30 is required.
Directed by John Meehan, American Ballet Theater’s Summer Intensive is a comprehensive training program with an emphasis on classical technique. In addition to daily ballet class, curriculum may also include classes in partnering, pointe work, nutrition, acting, yoga, music, physical therapy, history, pilates and jazz, character and modern dance. The faculty for each Summer Intensive is made up of ABT artistic staff and alumni, as well as guest teachers and accomplished pianists. Distinguished teachers have included ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, Susan Jones, Johan Renvall, Cynthia Harvey, Marianna Tcherkassky, Lupe Serrano, Leslie Browne, Ted Kivitt, Magali Messac and Kirk Peterson.
A complete schedule of ABT Summer Intensive audition sites follows. For additional information, click here or call ABT’s education office at 212-477-3030, Ext. 3416.
