LAR LUBOVITCH AND MARVIN LAIRD DISCUSS "...SMILE WITH MY HEART" FOR AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE AT WORKS & PROCESS AT THE GUGGENHEIM SUNDAY AND MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24 AND 25 AT 8 P.M.

 
11/12/2002 - American Ballet Theatre, in conjunction with Works & Process at the Guggenheim, will feature a discussion with choreographer Lar Lubovitch and composer Marvin Laird about their collaboration on "...smile with my heart," a tribute to Richard Rodgers, on Sunday, November 24 and Monday, November 25 at 8 P.M. in the Peter B. Lewis Theater at the Sackler Center for Arts Education at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

The symposium, moderated by American Ballet Theatre’s Artistic Director of Education and Training John Meehan, will feature performance excerpts of Mr. Lubovitch’s "...smile with my heart" by ABT dancers, a musical performance by Marvin Laird and discussions with Mr. Lubovitch and Mr. Laird about the ballet and Rodgers’ compositions.

"...smile with my heart" received its world premiere on Wednesday, October 23 as part of ABT’s Fall 2002 season at City Center. The ballet is set to Fantasie on Themes by Richard Rodgers, Mr. Laird’s arrangement of popular Rodgers tunes, including Do I Hear A Waltz?, It Might As Well Be Spring, Where or When?, The Sweetest Sounds and My Funny Valentine. ABT dancers scheduled to perform at the Guggenheim include Sandra Brown, Erica Cornejo, Joaquin De Luz, Elizabeth Gaither, Carlos Molina and Ethan Stiefel.

The 17th anniversary season of the Works & Process series, produced by Mary Sharp Cronson for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, features extraordinary contemporary music, dance, opera, and theater. Each event presents excerpts of productions accompanied by discussion among the artistic collaborators, offering insight into the creative process. The Guggenheim Museum is located at Fifth Avenue at 89th Street in New York City.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, or $10 for members of the Guggenheim Museum, ABT’s Dancer’s Circle or Golden Circle and for students and senior citizens.
