2009 SUMMER INTENSIVE
NATIONAL AUDITION TOUR ANNOUNCED

 
21 City Audition Tour for ABTís Summer Intensive and
Collegiate Program to Begin January 10 in Austin and Cincinnati

 
12/1/2008 - American Ballet Theatreís Summer Intensive National Audition Tour will kick off January 10 at University of Texas, Austin and the College-Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, Ohio and visit 21 cities through February 15, 2008. Intermediate and advanced students, ages 12 to 22, are invited to audition for ABTís New York, Collegiate and satellite Summer Intensives, and the Young Dancer Summer Workshop.

American Ballet Theatreís 2009 Summer Intensive programs are held in five locations nationwide: New York City (June 15 Ė July 24), Detroit, Michigan (June 22 Ė July 17), Tuscaloosa, Alabama (June 29 Ė July 18), Austin, Texas (July 5 Ė July 31), and Orange County, California (July 27 Ė August 14). Each site will offer ABT training tailored to the needs of participating dancers.

Under the supervision of American Ballet Theatreís Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie and Summer Intensive Artistic Director Melissa Allen Bowman, ABTís Summer Intensives focus on developing well-rounded dancers through exposure to a wide variety of disciplines and ABTís artists, history, and repertory, with an emphasis on classical ballet technique and key elements of ABTís National Training Curriculum. ABTís faculty for the Summer Intensive includes Wes Chapman, Artistic Director of ABT II, as well as renowned ABT alumni and faculty including Nancy Raffa, Susan Jones, Ethan Brown, Leslie Browne, Hilary Cartwright, Olga Dvorovenko, Alaine Haubert, Yan Chen, Warren Conover, Gage Bush Englund, Amanda McKerrow, Ted Kivitt, Clinton Luckett, Charles Maple, Brian Reeder, Amy Rose, and Lupe Serrano. In addition, Franco De Vita, Principal of ABTís Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, will direct the Alabama Summer Intensive for the first time to fully incorporate the ABT National Training Curriculum into the training of young dancers in the Summer Intensive program.

American Ballet Theatreís fourth Collegiate Summer Intensive will be held at ABTís New York headquarters, May 26 - June 12, 2009. This specialized program, designed for students ages 18 to 24, will include daily technique in ballet and modern dance, and will focus on ABT repertory, pointe work, composition, production, and choreography. College credit options are available. Applicants for the Collegiate Summer Intensive may audition at any of the Summer Intensive audition sites or by video.

Under the direction of Franco De Vita, the Young Dancer Summer Workshop will take place at ABTís New York studios July 27 - August 7, 2009. The program educates young dancers, ages 9-11, in ballet technique and related topics including nutrition, ballet terminology, and injury prevention.

Auditions for ABTís Summer Intensives are open to all male and female students who have achieved intermediate or advanced levels of ballet training. Applicants for the Collegiate Summer Intensive may also audition at any of the audition sites or by video. Applicants for the Young Dancer Summer Workshop may audition at select sites.
