Clarice Marshall
Biography
Clarice Marshall graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts in 1974 with an MFA in Dance. Upon graduation she joined the NYUTSOA faculty where she taught for fourteen years. Concurrently, she performed in the work of choreographers David Gordon, Rosalind Newman, and Ruby Shang. Ms. Marshall’s choreography has been produced by Lincoln Center, DTW, DanceSpace, and filmed and broadcast by PBS.
Following what could have been a career ending knee injury in 1979, Ms. Marshall became a certified Alexander teacher, and began a twenty year course study with Cathy Grant, one of the preeminent first generation Pilates instructors to train with Joseph Pilates.
In 1988, she joined the Mark Morris Dance Group, spent five years in Brussels, and premiered the original part of Marie in Mr. Morris’s Hardnut that was filmed by PBS’s Dance In America. During the same time period she also danced with Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Group.
Since retiring from the stage, Ms. Marshall teaches injury prevention and Pilates in her own studio, as well as at ABT, Mark Morris Dance Group, NYUTSOA and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company.
