Synopsis:
A plotless ballet set to Tchaikovsky’s Suite No. 4 for Orchestra, Mozartiana, with décor by Christian Bérard, was given its World Premiere by Les Ballets 1933 at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées on June 7, 1933, danced by Tamara Toumanova and Roman Jasinsky.
Mozartiana, with scenery and costumes by Christian Bérard, was given its United States premiere by The American Ballet at the Adelphi Theatre, New York on March 1, 1935. Prior to the official premiere, Mozartiana was presented by the Producing Company of the School of American Ballet at the Warburg estate in White Plains, New York on December 6, 1934. The principal dancers were Rabana Hasburgh, Holly Howard, Helen Leitch, Daphne Vane, Heidi Vosseler and Charles Laskey.
It was revised in a new version, with costumes by Rouben Ter-Arutunian, by New York City Ballet at the New York State Theater on June 4, 1981 as part of the Tchaikovsky Festival, and danced by Suzanne Farrell and Christopher d’Amboise.
