Synopsis:
Underpinning the froth and frolics of this joyous ballet is one of the most technically fiendish ballerina roles in the Balanchine canon, demanding a capacity for dizzying turns and lightning-speed reflexes. Set in an underwater grotto to infectiously cheerful music from Verdi’s opera Don Carlos, Balanchine’s dance poem is a showcase for the virtuosic bravura of ABT’s world-class ballerinas.
