ABT: AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE

Romeo and Juliet pas de deux (Romeo`s Farewell)

Metropolitan Opera House
New York, New York

Running Time: 5 minutes

Synopsis:
Based on the beloved Shakespeare play, Tudorís Romeo and Juliet, even in excerpt, is a rare treat for balletomanes. In the pas de deux presented this season, Tudor contemplates young love not with sweeping, grand gestures but with quiet, small movements of heartrending simplicity. When ABT premiered the work in 1943, the original cast included such luminaries as Alicia Markova (Juliet), Hugh Laing (Romeo), Jerome Robbins (Benvolio) and Tudor himself (Tybalt).
