Spring Gala

Join ABT for excerpts from Alexei Ratmansky’s Harlequinade, a pièce d’occasion by Michelle Dorrance and the World Premiere of Wayne McGregor’s AFTERITE.

Running Time: 118 minutes

Harlequinade (excerpts)

Choreography by Marius Petipa
Staging and Additional Choreography by Alexei Ratmansky
Music by Riccardo Drigo
Scenery and Costumes by Robert Perdziola
Lighting by Brad Fields

Running Time: 22 minutes

Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky brings this lost classic to life with a bold new staging, inspired by the archival notes of Marius Petipa. Experience pure comedic joy as Harlequin fights for his true love, Columbine, against her father who plans to marry her to a wealthy suitor. Full of madcap humor, incorrigible servants, and unforgettable characters, this tribute to the Italian commedia dell’arte tradition is not to be missed. Part of the Ratmansky Project.

Praedicere Michelle Dorrance World Premiere

Choreography by Michelle Dorrance
Music by Dawn of Midi ("lo", "Moon")

Running Time: 13 minutes

This World Premiere pièce d’occasion is the first in a trio of works by tap dancer and choreographer Michelle Dorrance, co-commissioned with Vail Dance Festival. This is Dorrance’s first work for American Ballet Theatre.

AFTERITE

Choreography by Wayne McGregor
Music by Igor Stravinsky
Set and Costumes by Vicki Mortimer
Lighting by Lucy Carter
Video Design by Ravi Deepres

Running Time: 35 minutes

Wayne McGregor, one of the most well-known international choreographers of the 21st century, will choreograph AFTERITE as his first ballet for American Ballet Theatre.  The visceral movement and contemporary sensibility of McGregor’s unique choreographic style makes him the perfect candidate to bring an entirely new take on The Rite of Spring to the ABT stage.
