Craig Miller

Biography

Craig Miller began his association with Lar Lubovitch in 1978 with the world premiere of Les Noces. In 1980, Mr. Miller was nominated for a Tony Award for his lighting of Barnum. His other Broadway and Off-Broadway designs included Most Happy Fella, On Golden Pond, Oh, Kay, Romance, Romance, Safe Sex, and Doubles. He was nominated for Maharam Awards for John Guare’s Gardinia and Beckett’s Company. Mr. Miller designed lighting for operas at the Spoleto U.S.A. Festival, Juilliard, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and the Santa Fe Opera, where he was resident designer for fifteen seasons. Other grand opera credits included the David Hockney production of Die Frau Ohne Schatten at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and for various productions at the Houston Grand Opera, and the Portland and Dallas Operas.
Craig Miller’s lighting for dance included The Nutcracker for the Boston Ballet, Cinderella for the Chicago City Ballet, and works for Alvin Ailey, Elisa Monte and the Pennsylvania, San Francisco, Stuttgart and Royal Danish Ballets. Mr. Miller died in 1994 at the age of 44.
