Irene Yacoub grew up in Cairo, Egypt where she studied at The Cairo Opera Ballet. Following years of training, she became a member of their corps de ballet at the age of 16. Her classical repertoire includes Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.
Yacoub received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McGill University and continued her training at Ballet Divertimento, École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec and Ballet Jörgen. While living in Montreal and becoming fluent in French, she danced with several companies, including Ballet Ouest and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
Yacoub’s passion for ballet evolved into a desire to educate. She received her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies from the Royal Academy of Dance and has successfully enrolled several of her students in both graded and vocational exams as well as Solo Seal. Yacoub has educated and developed students at several schools across Canada, including the prestigious Goh Ballet Academy and is now beginning to stretch her experience to the United States.
Yacoub is certified from Pre-Primary to Level 5 in the ABT National Training Curriculum and is currently on the faculty of the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School Children’s Division. Alongside teaching, she is also a coordinator at Columbia University Medical Center’s Anesthesiology Department.
