Kelley Potter

Biography

Born in Kernersville, North Carolina, Kelley Potter received her professional ballet training at the North Carolina School of the Arts. She joined the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company under the direction of John Meehan immediately following her graduation from The North Carolina School of the Arts in 2002. Potter soon joined the Boston Ballet dancing many soloist and principal roles. In 2009, Potter moved back to NYC to dance with American Ballet Theatre again full time. She’s had the incredible fortune of touring all over the world working, with world-renowned choreographers, and performing in some of the most prestigious theaters and opera houses.

In 2018 Potter, retired from the stage and joined the dance faculty of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. She is one of their full-time Ballet teachers for the Dance Department.

Potter is an American Ballet Theatre Certified Teacher in Levels Primary thru Level 7 of the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum. She teaches for the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School. Potter was the Artistic Coordinator for the American Ballet Theatre’s Apprenticeship Program in 2018. A guest faculty teacher for the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Steps on Broadway, Manhattan Youth Ballet, and Ballet Arts. She teaches for the American Ballet Theatre Summer Workshop in Tampa and NYC.

Potter set and rehearsed the young dancers of the school at American Ballet Theatre and The Washington Ballet in the World Premier of ABT’s Harlequinade, choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky.

Potter’s For Adeline premiered in November of 2017 by the dancers of Columbia Ballet Collaborative (CBC) for Columbia University. She also choreographs works at LaGuardia High School and enjoys working with the dancers creatively and bringing out their artistic side. Potter is a Certified Pilates mat Instructor.
