Kelley Potter

Biography

Born in Kernersville, North Carolina Kelley Potter  is currently a corps de ballet Dancer with American Ballet Theater.  She studied at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she graduated in 2002. Potter joined American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company in 2002 and later became an apprentice with ABT, performing various roles as a member of the Corps de Ballet.

Potter joined Boston Ballet in 2003, performing with them until 2008. Featured roles while dancing with Boston Ballet include the Snow Queen in the Nutcracker, lead swan and the pas de cinq in Swan Lake, the lead whore in Romeo and Juliet, Kitri’s Friend in Don Quixote, the Pas de Trois, Puss in Boots and the Enchanted Garden Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty, Nancy in La Sylphide, and roles in Jorma Elo’s Plan to B and Carmen, Mark Morris’ Up and Down, Helen Pickett’s Etesian, Val Caniparoli’s Lambarena and Sonata, Jiří Kylián’s Falling Angels, William Forsythe’s In the middle, somewhat elevated, and Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room.

Potter rejoined American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet in January 2009. Featured roles include a Harlot and Lady Montague in Romeo and Juliet,  Giselle’s Mother in Giselle, the Lead D’Jampe in La Bayadère, Lead Czardas and Leap Spanish in Swan Lake, lead Stomper in In the Upper Room, as well as roles in all of the Company’s full-length ballets.

Potter is an American Ballet Theatre® Certified Teacher in levels Primary through Level 7 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. As a teacher, Potter has taught in the American Ballet Theater School, Steps on Broadway, The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, as well as taught and choreographed her first piece at the Young Dancers Summer Intensive thru American Ballet Theater.

She is Pilates Certified and a proud mother.
