Born in Kernersville, North Carolina, Kelley Potter graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2002. She joined the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company under John Meehan in 2002 and became an apprentice with the main Company in 2003.
Potter joined Boston Ballet in 2003, performing with them until 2008. Her repertory with Boston Ballet included Snow Queen, Arabian dance, Spanish dance and Demi Flower in The Nutcracker, lead swan and the pas de cinq in Swan Lake, the lead whore in Romeo and Juliet, Kitri’s Friend in Don Quixote, the Pas de Trois, Puss in Boots and the Enchanted Garden Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty, Nancy in La Sylphide, and roles in Jorma Elo’s Plan to B and Carmen, Mark Morris’ Up and Down, Helen Pickett’s Etesian, Val Caniparoli’s Lambarena and Sonata, Jiří Kylián’s Falling Angels, William Forsythe’s In the middle, somewhat elevated, and Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room.
Potter rejoined American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet in January 2009. She is an American Ballet Theatre Certified Teacher in Levels Primary through Level 7 of the ABT National Training Curriculum. She is currently a teacher in the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School Children’s Division and ABT’s Young Dancer Summer Workshop in Tampa, Florida and New York City. Potter is a guest faculty teacher of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Steps on Broadway. Her ballet For Adeline was premiered by the dancers of Columbia Ballet Collaborative (CBC) for Columbia University in November 2017. She is currently assisting with the staging of the ABT JKO School students who appear in Alexei Ratmansky’s Harlequinade.
Potter is a Certified Pilates mat instructor and the mother to a beautiful daughter.
