Biography

Kevin Galie is one of the pre-eminent arrangers and restorers of the great classical Russian ballets from original and previously missing manuscripts. His current arrangements for orchestra and accompanying scores for piano have been performed by American Ballet Theatre, The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, England’s Royal Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Spanish National Television, Berlin Staats Oper and French National Television. As principal organist, harmoniumist and harpsichordist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for eight years, Galie worked with virtually every great conductor in the world. He maintains an active schedule with chamber groups and symphony orchestras. In the past year, he performed and recorded Arnold Schoenberg’s arrangement of Mahler’s 4th Symphony, Songs of the Wayfarer and Das Lied von der Erde.

Galie was variously accompanist, choreographic music consultant and orchestra conductor for the Harvard Radcliffe Ballet Company for fourteen years. Galie’s live conducting appearances have recently included the full spectrum of orchestra, ballet, opera, oratorio and stage works, such as his own orchestration and recording of Minkus’ La Bayadère, Mozart’s Requiem, Mass in C and the opera Don Giovanni, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Once on this Island, Pippin, Children of Eden, The Fantastiks, Fame, Amahl and the Night Visitors, Carmina Burana, Poulenc’s Gloria, Brahms’ German Requiem, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Respighi’s Lauda, Bach’s Cantata’s 140, 141, 138, 40, 51, 249, 4, Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Finzi’s Intimations of Immortality, Neruda’s Canto General, Carissimi’s Jephte, and Honegger’s King David.

Galie and Anna-Marie Holmes together have a joint publishing house, Editions Anna-Marie Holmes (Editions AMH). Editions AMH has Galie’s new orchestrations and piano rehearsal scores for La Bayadère, Le Corsaire, Laurentia and Flames of Paris.
