Petrusjka Broholm, a native of Denmark, trained at the Ballet School of the Royal Danish Theatre. In 1984, she joined The Royal Danish Ballet as an apprentice and was promoted to the corps de ballet in 1986. In 1991, Broholm joined Deutche Oper Ballet in Berlin as a soloist then returned to The Royal Danish Ballet as a soloist in 1995.
Broholm’s performances as a soloist with The Royal Danish Ballet included the student in The Lesson, Clara in The Nutcracker, Swanilda in Coppélia, Teresina in Napoli, Eleonora and Johanna in The Kermesse in Bruges, Effie in La Sylphide, Birth in A Folk Tale, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Eliza in The Conservatory, Pulcinella in Pulcinella, Olga in Onegin, and further soloist roles in Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, Flower Festival in Genzano, Abdallah, Cinderella, The Waltz Project, Serait ce la mort, Agon, Swan Lake, Catalyst, Bach Suite No. 5, Symphony in C, Agon, Theme and Variations and Jeu de Cartes.
From 2008-2012, Broholm served as a ballet mistress and teacher at The Royal Danish Ballet and The Royal Danish Ballet School.
She has received numerous grants including the DANCE-grant, the Svenage Larsens Grant, the Hans Brenas Grant, IBM, the Bournonville Grant and the Schonberg Grant.
Broholm has staged ballets all over the world, including La Sylphide for New York City Ballet in 2015, Peter Martins’ Swan Lake for The Royal Danish Ballet, Conservatory for Boston Ballet School, Anna Marie Holmes’ production of Swan Lake, Dinna Bjorn’s The Nutcracker, Peter Martins’ Fearful Symmetries, John Neumeier’s Romeo and Juliet, Christopher Wheeldon’s The Wanderers and Alexei Ratmansky’s The Nutcracker.
In 2017, she was a principal guest coach for Cynthia Harvey’s production of The Sleeping Beauty and Giselle for the Norwegian National Ballet. She has also been a guest coach and teacher at Beijing Dance Academy, Boston Ballet School, Ballet Academy East, The National Ballet of China, National Ballet of Finland, Il Balletto Italy, Inoue Ballet Tokyo, American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet.
In spring 2018, Cynthia Harvey, Artistic Director of the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School, brought in Broholm to stage Act II of La Sylphide on the ABT JKO School Pre-Professional Division. Broholm currently serves as the ABT Studio Company Ballet Mistress and Principal Teacher for the ABT JKO School Pre-Professional Division.
