Sylvie Rood

Biography

Sylvie Rood is a costume and fashion designer from Brooklyn, New York.  She received ballet training at the School of American Ballet and became a member of the corps de ballet with San Francisco Ballet.  She then attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and earned a Bachelor’s degree in fashion design with specialties in women’s sportswear, swimwear, athletic wear and lingerie.  Woven into her fashion and costume creations are years of dance performance and training that give Rood an understanding of clothing’s movement on a body in motion.  She has designed for both classical and contemporary dance companies, working with such choreographers as Myles Thatcher, Gemma Bond, Trey McIntyre and David Parsons.  In addition, Sylvie has worked for the fashion companies of Thom Browne, Proenza Schouler and Pamella Roland.

Rood previously created the costumes for Gemma Bond’s ballet Inner Voices, presented at New York City Center’s Fall for Dance in 2018.  A Time There Was is her first collaboration with American Ballet Theatre.
