Erica Cornejo

Born in San Luis, Argentina, Erica Cornejo began her study of ballet at the age of four. In 1994, she was invited to join Julio Bocca’s company, Ballet Argentino where she was promoted to principal ballerina and Bocca’s partner in 1995.

Cornejo joined ABT Studio Company in May 1998 and, later the same year, she joined American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet.  She was appointed a Soloist in April 2003. Her roles with the Company include a Shade and the lead D’Jampe in La Bayadère, the fourth movement in Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1, Aurora and the Lead Mazurka/Czardas Dancer in Coppélia, the Lead Pirate Woman in Le Corsaire, Mercedes, the lead gypsy and a flower girl in Don Quixote, the Masks in Christopher Wheeldon’s VIII, the peasant pas de deux in Giselle, His Experiences in HereAfter, the Two of Diamonds in Jeu de Cartes, Clara in The Nutcracker, the Debutante in Offenbach in the Underworld, the Dancer in Petrouchka, Clemence and the Saracen Dancer in Raymonda, the Cowgirl in Rodeo, a Harlot in Romeo and Juliet, the pas de trios and Lead Czardas in Swan Lake, a Goat in Sylvia and leading roles in Amazed in Burning Dreams, Black Tuesday, Gong, In The Upper Room, Petite Mort, Sechs Tänze, Sinfonietta, Les Sylphides and workwithinwork.  She created leading roles in “…smile with my heart” and Within You Without You:  A Tribute to George Harrison and a featured role in HereAfter.

In 2006, Cornejo joined Boston Ballet as a principal dancer, where she performed leading roles until her retirement in 2017.  She is co-founder and artistic director of INTEGRARTE, a Dance Art Movement Center in Boston.

Erica Cornejo is the sister of ABT Principal Dancer Herman Cornejo.
