Program Details

The dance education aspect of this curriculum is taught by American Ballet Theatre master teachers, and pedagogy and research are complemented with an arts management course.

Students examine the study of ballet technique for the express purpose of developing research-informed and proficient teachers who possess a complete understanding of the use of the biomechanics of movement, artistic imagery, and the development of students on professional and recreational tracks of study. Integrated fieldwork studies provide opportunities to cultivate professional networks in the dance capital of the world.

The ABT/NYU Master’s Program requires full-time study; coursework starts each September and can be completed in three semesters. The program totals 36 credits.

Auditions

Acceptance into the program is by application and audition only. The audition is open to applicants for the NYU Master’s Program only and prospective students must have already attained an advanced level of ballet training. The video audition will include barre and center work. Appropriate ballet attire is required. Once the completed application is submitted, individual interviews with NYU and ABT faculty will be scheduled.

  • Possess a level of endurance, strength, and flexibility to demonstrate technique and artistic imagery
