Teacher Training Intensives

We at American Ballet Theatre believe that the key to raising the quality of ballet training nationwide is to provide teachers with the information needed to fully understand the best practices in pedagogy, child development, dance psychology, and anatomy. That is why ABT created the Teacher Training Intensives, in which ballet teachers receive a holistic education on the National Training Curriculum and the best practices in how to teach ballet.

The trainings are divided into three sessions: Session 1 is for NTC certification in Pre-Primary through Level 3, Session 2 is for NTC certification in Levels 4 and 5, and Session 3 is for NTC certification in Levels 6, 7, and Partnering. ABT offers a variety of national and international Teacher Training Intensives. See below for ABT’s opportunities for dance educators, within the US and internationally.

Raising the Barre Weekend Workshops

The Raising the Barre Weekend Workshops are designed to “raise the bar” of ballet training for teachers and their students, nurture emerging artists, and review historical gems.

Twyla Tharp – October 28 – 29, 2023 @ ABT’s Studios in New York, NY

Twyla Tharp is one of the most celebrated and prolific dance icons of our time. Her innovative work has positively impacted and shaped American ballet and the global dance landscape over many decades. ABT’s Raising the Barre weekend workshop, October 28-29, will let teachers and students get a glimpse into several of Twyla Tharp’s most beloved ballets, as well as the curriculum she has developed which educates dancers through the lessons that are embedded in her choreography. Limited spots are available.

Tharp Technique and Repertory classes will be taught by longtime trusted répétiteurs, Stacy Caddell and John Selya. Ballet technique classes will be taught by ABT JKO School Artistic Director, Stella Abrera, and other members of the ABT Education Department. Panel discussions will include a cameo by Twyla Tharp herself. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to Raise the Barre!

Registration deadline is extended to October 25, 2023
