Fun with Fitness Week

Every year, American Ballet Theatre’s Engagement programs bring hundreds of young students to the Company’s studios to see rehearsals and performances by ABT dancers and students in the ABT Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis School.

There is always such excitement in the ballet studio. Getting to see the dancers up close is a much different experience than sitting hundreds of feet away in a theatre. With each visit, students are always captivated by the incredible athleticism of ABT’s dancers.

From their bounding leaps to their dizzying turns and daring lifts, the students become instantly aware that ABT’s dancers are just as much an athlete as any professional sports star!

While you may know that dancers begin their day with a ballet class, you may not be aware of all the other things dancers do to stay healthy and keep their bodies in tip-top shape!

This week we have invited ABT Physical Therapist Julie Daugherty to curate a fun-filled week of activities introducing you to some of the ways dancers train and stay in shape beyond their daily ballet class.

ABT JKO School Children's Division Online Community Classes

In the Spring of 2020, @ABTSchool launched virtual classes taught by former ABT dancers, ABT JKO School faculty and ABT teaching artists – all certified in the ABT National Training Curriculum.

Recommended for ages 2-4 and 5-8, these classes engage ABT’s youngest students and their families, as well as the global community at large, by exploring musicality, fostering creativity and imagination, and teaching ballet fundamentals.
