ABT JKO Students join Harlequinade
Each year, students at the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School have the opportunity to be cast in ABT Main Company productions that have children’s roles during the spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House. Performing as a supernumery at the Met is a great way for the JKO Students to learn choreography, work with ballet masters, connect and learn from the dancers in the Company, and strengthen friendships with their classmates!
This spring, a total of 40 students from the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School were cast in Harlequinade! The all-new production of Harlequinade, staged by Alexei Ratmansky after the original by Marius Petipa, gave its World Premiere by American Ballet Theatre on June 4, 2018 at the Metropolitan Opera House. A comic ballet in two-acts, Harlequinade is set to music by Riccardo Drigo and first premiered in 1900 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The new production features sets and costumes by Robert Perdziola.
ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School Artistic Director Cynthia Harvey and Children’s Ballet Mistresses Harriet Clark and Kelley Potter extend their gratitude to the ABT JKO School students and their families for participating on stage this season!
