Biography

Born in Bristol, England, Amanda Eyles trained at the Arts Educational Schools, Rambert Academy and the Benesh Institute, graduating in 1987. She started her career as a Benesh notator at The Royal Ballet, then moved to Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet (later Birmingham Royal Ballet). She spent ten years as ballet mistress for English National Ballet before moving to Scottish Ballet. Currently Eyles works freelance, principally with Wayne McGregor and The Royal Ballet. She has also worked with Rambert, Richard Alston Dance Company, Polish National Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Boston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Shanghai Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Eyles combines her role of Benesh notator with ballet mistress and rehearsal director, assisting choreographers on creating new work and teaching, rehearsing, and staging existing work. She was also Assistant Director at the Benesh Institute at the Royal Academy of Dance and tutor on the Benesh Movement Notation course.
