Evvie Allison

Biography

Evvie Allison is a dance artist and teacher originally from Birmingham, Alabama. She received her early dance training in classical ballet with American Ballet Theatre veterans Wes Chapman and Roger Van Fleteran before moving to New York City to pursue a career as a contemporary dancer and choreographer. As a dancer, she has appeared in works by Anna Azrieli, Kim Brandt, Merce Cunningham (via the Merce Cunningham Trust), Burr Johnson, Molly Poerstel, Katy Pyle, and RoseAnne Spradlin, among others; in music videos choreographed by Kira Alker and Elke Luyten (for David Bowie), Beth Gill, and Celia Rowlson-Hall; and worked as a research associate with Sarah Michelson for her piece 4. Her choreography has been awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Choreography (2016) and a Kate Kinley Memorial Fellowship (2019-2020) and has been presented by Center for Performance Research, Danspace Project, Gibney, Movement Research at the Judson Church, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and NOWNESS. Her work has been supported by residencies at Chez Bushwick (NY), Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (FL), PLAYA (OR), and Tofte Lake Center (MN). Allison received her Pilates certification from the Kane School at Kinected and studies with Clarice Marshall and Eleanor Hullihan. She has taught Pilates in the ABT Summer Intensive since 2019 (New York City and virtual) and joined the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School in 2021. She holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
