2017 Summer Intensive National Audition Tour Announced

27 City Audition Tour for ABT Summer Intensive and Collegiate Program to Begin January 7, 2017

Auditions for Young Dancer Summer Workshop to be Held in Select Cities

American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive National Audition Tour will kick off January 7, 2017 in New York City and will visit a total of 27 cities through February 12, 2017. Intermediate and advanced students, ages 9 to 24, are invited to audition for ABTR#8217;s New York, Collegiate and satellite Summer Intensives, and Young Dancer Summer Workshop.

American Ballet Theatre’s 2017 Summer Intensive programs will be held in five locations: New York City (June 26 – July 28), Tuscaloosa, Alabama (July 3 – July 22), Austin, Texas (July 3 – July 28) and Orange County, California (July 24 – August 11).  Each site will offer ABT training tailored to the needs of participating dancers.

Under the supervision of American Ballet Theatre’s Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie and newly appointed Summer Intensive Artistic Director Kate Lydon, ABT Summer Intensives focus on developing well-rounded dancers through exposure to a wide variety of disciplines and ABT’s artists, history and repertory, with an emphasis on classical ballet technique. ABT Summer Intensives are the primary recruitment tool for the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and the ABT Studio Company. Over 50 former and current dancers from ABT have trained in the Company’s Summer Intensive programs.

Faculty for the Summer Intensive programs will include renowned ABT alumni and ABT JKO School faculty including Charles Askegard, Ethan Brown, Leslie Browne, Wes Chapman, Yan Chen, Harriet Clark, Fabrice Herrault, Lorin Johnson, Carla Stallings Lippert, Rosanna Seravalli, Lupe Serrano and Cheryl Yeager, among others. Special guest faculty will also include ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, Artistic Director of the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School Cynthia Harvey and ABT Ballet Master Carlos Lopez.

American Ballet Theatre’s Collegiate Summer Intensive will be held at ABT’s New York headquarters, June 5 – 23, 2017.  This specialized program, designed for students ages 17 to 24, will focus on technique, ABT repertory, pointe work, partnering, modern dance, jazz and character. College credit options are available. Applicants for the Collegiate Summer Intensive may audition at any of the Summer Intensive audition sites or by video.

American Ballet Theatre’s 2017 Young Dancer Summer Workshop programs will be held in four locations: New York City (July 31 – August 11), San Jose, California (June 19 – 30), Orange County, California (July 10 – 21) and new this year, Tampa, Florida (July 10 – 21). These programs educate young dancers, ages 9 to 12, in ballet technique and related topics including nutrition, ballet terminology, classroom and rehearsal etiquette and injury prevention. Auditions for Young Dancer Summer Workshop will be held in select cities, please see attached audition tour schedule for further information.

Auditions for ABT Summer Intensives are open to male and female students who have achieved intermediate or advanced levels of ballet training. Applicants for the Collegiate Summer Intensive may also audition at any of the audition sites. Applicants for the Young Dancer Summer Workshop may audition at select sites. Students can audition by video for all programs. Merit-based scholarships will be granted during the ABT Summer Intensive National Audition Tour. Scholarships are available for all three programs.
