AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE ANNOUNCES 2004 SUMMER INTENSIVE NATIONAL AUDITION TOUR, JANUARY 10 TO FEBRUARY 22

Dates and locations for American Ballet Theatre’s 2004 Summer Intensive National Audition Tour were announced today by John Meehan, Artistic Director of Education and Training. Open to dance students ages 12 to 22, the auditions for ABT’s annual Summer Intensive training programs will take place in 21 cities nationwide, beginning January 10 in Miami, Florida and continuing through February 22, 2004.

ABT’s Summer Intensives will be held in New York City (June 21-July 30); Detroit, Michigan (June 28-July 23); Tuscaloosa, Alabama (June 27-July 17); Austin, Texas (July 12-August 6) and Orange County, California (August 2-20). By auditioning in one of the 21 cities, male and female students who have achieved intermediate or advanced levels of ballet training are eligible for any of the Summer Intensive sites. Students over the age of 18 will be considered for the New York Summer Intensive only. Dancers, ages 16 to 20 years old, may also audition for American Ballet Theatre’s Studio Company, a pre-professional company of 12 young dancers, by notifying ABT officials at the time of registration. A registration fee of $30 is required.

Directed by former ABT Soloist Rebecca Wright, American Ballet Theater’s Summer Intensive is a comprehensive training program with an emphasis on classical technique. In addition to daily ballet class, curriculum may also include classes in partnering, pointe work, nutrition, acting, yoga, music, physical therapy, history, pilates and jazz, character and modern dance. The faculty for each Summer Intensive is made up of ABT artistic staff and alumni, as well as guest teachers and accomplished pianists. Distinguished teachers have included ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, Cynthia Harvey, Marianna Tcherkassky, Lupe Serrano, David Howard, Leslie Browne, Magali Messac, Kirk Peterson and Robert Hill.
