Final performances for American Ballet Theatre’s New York Summer Intensive Program are scheduled for Friday, July 26, 2019 at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, New York.  The performances mark the conclusion of ABT’s 24th annual New York Summer Intensive, a five-week training program for dancers ages 12 to 20.

Summer Intensive students will perform selections from ABT’s repertory including Coppélia, Don Quixote, Giselle, La Bayadère, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and August Bournonville’s Le Conservatoire.  Participants in American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensives are chosen through a cross-country audition tour sponsored by Freed of London, Ltd.  The audition tour reached 4,200 applicants in 24 cities across the United States this year.  ABT’s 2019 Summer Intensives will welcome 1,450 participants in New York City and satellite programs in Alabama, Texas, Florida and California.

The annual Summer Intensive at ABT’s New York City studios is a comprehensive course that begins with daily ballet technique class and includes specialized classes in pointe work, partnering, character dance, mime, modern, jazz, Pilates and yoga for young dancers.  To complement the dancers’ training, lectures are offered on injury prevention, anatomy and nutrition.  Over 50 former and current dancers from ABT have trained in the Company’s Summer Intensive programs.

Under the direction of Kate Lydon, the 2019 New York Summer Intensive Program incorporates a faculty of ABT alumni, members of ABT’s Artistic Staff and renowned teachers including ABT Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, Artistic Director of the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School Cynthia Harvey, Artistic Director of ABT Studio Company Sascha Radetsky, Charles Askegard, Petrusjka Broholm, Ethan Brown, Gabrielle Brown, Leslie Browne, Yan Chen, Harriet Clark, Olga Dvorovenko, Maina Gielgud, Rosanna Seravalli, Lupe Serrano, Sarah Smith, Ethan Stiefel, Leann Underwood and Cheryl Yeager.
