ABT BRINGS OTHELLO INTO CLASSROOMS IN WASHINGTON D.C.

January 8, 2007 - January 12, 2007

Elementary and middle school students from Washington D.C. public schools will perform an original retelling of the ballet Othello on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 10 AM and 1:30 PM to showcase their talent and work with American Ballet Theatre’s Make A Ballet On Tour program. In addition, 400 public school students will attend a special dress rehearsal at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 2:15 PM.

Make a Ballet On Tour, the traveling arm of American Ballet Theatre’s award-winning Make A Ballet program, is a one-week intensive residency program that tutors students in various aspects of ballet and stagecraft including choreography, performance, set and costume design. MAB On Tour is able to be in Washington D.C. by generous funding from Friedman Billings Ramsey Group Inc. and the United States Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and the Office of Justice Programs, in collaboration with ABT’s week-long engagement at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

American Ballet Theatre will be working with students from Amidon Elementary School and Sacred Heart Elementary School. Make A Ballet On Tour culminates in a final showing of the students’ work, an original retelling of the ballet Othello, to an audience of their peers. Sacred Heart Elementary School will be performing at 10 AM and Amidon Elementary School will be performing at 1:30 PM.
Students from Eaton Elementary School, Amidon Elementary School, Brent Elementary School, and Sacred Heart School will also attend a dress rehearsal of American Ballet Theatre’s Othello at The Kennedy Center on January 11, 2007.
