ABT BRINGS ROMEO AND JULIET
INTO CLASSROOMS IN CHICAGO,

High school students from Chicago public schools will produce an original retelling of the ballet Romeo and Juliet to showcase their talent and skills as part of American Ballet Theatre’s Make a Ballet On Tour program. In addition, 300 students will attend a special dress rehearsal of ABT’s production of Romeo and Juliet, choreographed by Sir Kenneth MacMillan, at the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Drive, in Chicago, on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 2:15 PM.

Make a Ballet On Tour, the traveling arm of American Ballet Theatre’s award-winning Make a Ballet program, is a one-week intensive residency program that tutors students in various aspects of ballet and stagecraft including choreography, performance, set and costume design. Payless ShoeSource¬Æ is the Exclusive Dance Footwear Sponsor of ABT’s Make a Ballet program in Chicago. Citigroup Foundation is the Corporate Sponsor of ABT’s Make a Ballet On Tour. Additional funding is provided by the United States Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Office of Justice Programs. Make a Ballet On Tour is presented in collaboration with ABT’s engagement at the Civic Opera House, March 21-15, 2007.

Make a Ballet On Tour will be working with students from Roger C. Sullivan High School, Curie Metropolitan High School, School of the Arts High School, and the Perspectives Charter School ¬¨- Calumet Campus. Each program will culminate in a final showing of the students’ work, an original retelling of the ballet Romeo and Juliet to an audience of their peers. Approximately 300 students from these schools will also attend a dress rehearsal of American Ballet Theatre’s Romeo and Juliet, at the Civic Opera House on Wednesday, March 21.

American Ballet Theatre’s performances of Romeo and Juliet at the Civic Opera House are as follows: Wednesday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, March 22, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Friday, March 23, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 24, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, March 25, at 2 p.m. Tickets, priced from $23 to $103, can be purchased by calling (312) 902-1500; by visiting the Civic Opera House box office; or on-line at www.ticketmaster.com. Groups of 15 or more can receive discount pricing by calling (312) 922-2110, ext. 357. A limited number of student rush tickets, priced at $20, will be available on the day of each performance at the Civic Opera box office and through Ticketmaster. Students must present a valid ID.
