Choreography Week with Gemma Bond

choreographer
noun: a person who creates dance compositions and plans and arranges dance movements and patterns for dances and especially for ballets.

Have you ever wanted to create your own dance but didn’t know where to start? We are proud to welcome back choreographer Gemma Bond as she takes over ABTKids Daily this week to give you tips on how you can choreograph your very own dance!

Gemma got her first taste of choreography at age 13 when she competed in The Royal Ballet’s Sir Kenneth MacMillan Choreographic Competition. Since 2010, she has created three new ballets for ABT’s choreography workshops, as well as works for the main Company and ABT Studio Company.

This week Gemma will break down the choreographic process:

  1. Selecting the Music
  2. Creating Movement
  3. Mapping Your Dance
  4. Inspiration and Staging
  5. Being a Choreographer

ABT JKO School Children's Division Online Community Classes

In the Spring of 2020, @ABTSchool launched virtual classes taught by former ABT dancers, ABT JKO School faculty and ABT teaching artists – all certified in the ABT National Training Curriculum.

Recommended for ages 2-4 and 5-8, these classes engage ABT’s youngest students and their families, as well as the global community at large, by exploring musicality, fostering creativity and imagination, and teaching ballet fundamentals.
