Blaine Hoven, a member of American Ballet Theatre’s corps de ballet, is a recipient of the 2008 Princess Grace Award. Hoven received a specially designated award, the Chris Hellman Dance Award, awarded to one recipient in the dance category each year. The awards were announced today by the Princess Grace Foundation-USA.

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Blaine Hoven began his early training at Mobile Ballet and trained at the North Carolina School of the Arts with Melissa Hayden, Warren Conover, Fanchon Cordell, Nina Danilova and Susan McKee McCollough. He was awarded American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Scholarship from 1999 through 2002 and attended ABT’s Summer Intensives for five years. In 2003, he joined ABT II and became a member of ABT’s corps de ballet in 2004. His repertoire with ABT includes the peasant pas de deux in Giselle, Cassio in Othello, Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty and leading roles in Twyla Tharp’s Baker’s Dozen and In The Upper Room. In addition, he created leading roles in Jorma Elo’s Glow-Stop and Trey McIntyre’s Pretty Good Year, as well as featured roles in Tharp’s Rabbit and Rogue and Benjamin Millepied’s From Here On Out.

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA, a public charity, was formed after the death of Princess Grace in 1982. The Foundation awards scholarships, apprenticeships and fellowships to emerging theater, dance and film artists to assist with career development. This year’s recipients will receive their Awards at a black-tie Gala with HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco in attendance on October 15, 2008 in New York City.
