ABT's NEW YORK SUMMER INTENSIVE
FINAL PERFORMANCES SCHEDULED FOR
FRIDAY, JULY 27, 12 P.M. AND 4 P.M., AT
LAGUARDIA HIGH SCHOOL OF MUSIC & ART AND PERFORMING ARTS
Final performances for American Ballet Theatre’s New York Summer Intensive Program are scheduled for Friday, July 27, 2007 at 12 P.M. and 4 P.M. at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts located at 100 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street. The performances mark the conclusion of ABT’s twelfth annual New York Summer Intensive, a six-week training program for dancers, ages 12 to 22.
Summer Intensive final performances will include excerpts from The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Graduation Ball, La Bayadère, and Don Quixote. The program will also feature original choreography from Olga Dvorovenko, Tina Fehlandt, Leslie Browne, Joao Carvalho, Brian Reeder, Kevin Wynn, and Jessica Lang.
Participants in American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensives are chosen through a cross-country audition tour sponsored by Freed of London, Ltd. This year, more than 3,000 students auditioned in 21 cities across the United States. ABT’s 2007 Summer Intensives will reach over 1000 participants in New York City and through satellite programs in Michigan, Alabama, Texas, California and Bermuda.
There are 241 students currently participating in the 2007 New York Summer Intensive. The annual program at ABT’s New York City studios is a comprehensive course that begins with daily ballet technique class and includes specialized classes in pointe work, partnering, choreography, jazz, character dance, acting, ballroom, modern dance, Pilates and yoga for young dancers. To complement the dancers’ training, seminars are offered on injury prevention, music theory, dance history and stress management.
Under the direction of Nancy Raffa, ABT’s 2007 New York Summer Intensive Program incorporates a faculty of distinguished alumni and renowned teachers, including Franco de Vita, Kirk Peterson, Ethan Brown, Hilary Cartwright, Olga Dvorovenko, Cynthia Harvey-Murphy, Clinton Luckett, Wes Chapman, Lupe Serrano, Gabrielle Brown, Rosanna Seravalli, Brian Reeder and Leslie Browne.
