AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE ANNOUNCES 2007 NATIONAL SUMMER INTENSIVE AUDITION TOUR

21 City Audition Tour for ABT's Summer Intensive and Collegiate Program to Begin January 6 in Austin, Texas

Young Dancer Summer Workshop Announces New Los Angeles Site

American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive National Audition Tour will kick off January 6 at the University of Texas, Austin, visiting 21 cities through February 18, 2007. Intermediate and advanced students, ages 12 to 22, are invited to audition for ABT’s New York and satellite summer intensives.

American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive programs will be held in five locations nationwide: New York City (June 18 – July 27), Detroit, Michigan (June 25 – July 20), Tuscaloosa, Alabama (June 24 – July 14), Austin, Texas (July 9 – August 3), and Orange County, California (July 30 – August 17). Each site will offer ABT training tailored to the needs of participating dancers.

Under the supervision of ABT’s Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie and Director of Summer Intensives Nancy Raffa, American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensives focus on developing well-rounded dancers through exposure to a wide variety of disciplines and ABT’s artists, history, and repertory, with an emphasis on classical ballet technique. ABT’s faculty for the Summer Intensive includes Franco De Vita, Principal of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at ABT and Kirk Peterson, ABT Studio Company Artistic Director, as well as renowned ABT alumni including Melissa Allen, Ethan Brown, Leslie Browne, Wes Chapman, Yan Chen, Warren Conover, Kristine Elliot, Gage Bush Englund, Cynthia Harvey, Susan Jones, Ted Kivitt, Clinton Luckett, Charles Maple, Brian Reeder, Amy Rose, Lupe Serrano, and Rosanna Seravalli.

American Ballet Theatre’s second Collegiate Summer Intensive will be held at ABT’s New York headquarters (May 29 – June 15). This specialized program, designed for students ages 18 to 24, includes daily technique in ballet and modern dance and will focus on pedagogy, composition, production, and choreography. College credit options are available. Applicants for the Collegiate Summer Intensive may audition at any of the Summer Intensive audition sites or by video.

The Young Dancer Summer Workshop will have its inaugural Los Angeles Workshop in collaboration with the Los Angeles Music Center (July 2 – July 13). The program will take place at the Colborn School in Los Angeles under the supervision of Franco De Vita. The Young Dancer Summer Workshop educates young dancers, ages 9-11, in ballet technique and related topics including nutrition, ballet terminology, and injury prevention. The Young Dancer Summer Workshop, open to students ages 9-11, will also be held at ABT’s New York headquarters (July 30 – August 10).

Auditions for ABT’s Summer Intensives are open to all male and female students who have achieved intermediate or advanced levels of ballet training. Applicants for the Collegiate Summer Intensive may also audition at any of the audition sites or by video. Applicants for the Young Dancer Summer Workshop may audition at select sites.
