The Junior Associate Program of American Ballet Theatre’s Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School will hold auditions for dancers ages 9-11 at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 12 at ABT’s headquarters at 890 Broadway in New York City. The new Junior Associate Program and the audition were announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie.
American Ballet Theatre’s Junior Associate program will become part of the
Pre-Professional division at the JKO School. The program offers classes in classical ballet technique, pointe and character. Students will be accepted by audition only.
“The addition of the new Junior Associate Program allows for a smooth transition in the training of our young dancers into the pre-professional level,” said Franco De Vita, Principal of the JKO School. “With this program, ABT will continue its commitment to excellence through our dance training and dance education.”
In addition, ABT’s Ballet for the Young Dancer Program will now be called the Children’s Division of the JKO School. The Children’s Division provides recreational instruction for young dancers ages 5-12.
The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre, established in January 2004, is a pre-professional classical ballet program currently training students at the Company’s 890 Broadway rehearsal studios. Under the direction of Franco De Vita, Principal, the faculty of the JKO School includes members of ABT’s Artistic Staff, ABT alumni and other prominent teachers. The JKO School follows a specific graded curriculum, divided by age as outlined in ABT’s National Training Curriculum. Each level is designed to be sensitive to the developmental needs of the age group.
Northern Trust is the Official Sponsor of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre.
