CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR FIFTH AND SIXTH WEEKS OF AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE AT METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE
Veronika Part To Make New York Debut in Swan Lake
Casting for the fifth and sixth weeks of American Ballet Theatre’s 2004 Spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie.
Don Quixote will have the first of eight performances on Monday, June 7 with Nina Ananiashvili as Kitri, Jose Manuel Carreño as Basilio, Carmen Corella as Mercedes and Marcelo Gomes as Espada. On Thursday, June 10, Erica Cornejo will make her debut as Mercedes, with Xiomara Reyes and Angel Corella dancing the leading roles. Don Quixote is set to music by Ludwig Minkus and staged by Kevin McKenzie and Susan Jones, after choreography by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky.
Swan Lake, choreographed by Kevin McKenzie and set to the music of Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky, will have its first performance of the season on Monday, June 14, with Gillian Murphy and Jose Manuel Carreño in the leading roles. On Tuesday, June 15, Veronika Part will make her New York debut as Odette/Odile with ABT, dancing opposite Marcelo Gomes as Prince Siegfried. Ms. Part first performed the role with ABT at the Civic Opera House in Chicago in March of this year.
Countrywide Financial is the National Sponsor of American Ballet Theatre and Cole Haan is a Leading Benefactor. Graff Jewelers is ABT’s season sponsor of the 2004 Metropolitan Opera House season. ABT’s 2004 spring season is also made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
