Romeo and Juliet - Harlot Wigs
“ABT’s production of Romeo and Juliet was originally designed by Nicholas Georgiadis for The Royal Ballet in 1965 before being premiered by ABT in 1985. Over the years, the Harlot wigs have been modified but still represent his original design. The current Harlot wigs are made from synthetic hair and have additional braids added to finalize the detail. Each wig takes about 2 hours to restyle, which includes: brushing, washing, blocking, setting, drying and styling. We restyle the wigs before each performance week of the ballet. Because the Harlot characters are thrown around on stage and dancing, we use at least double the amount of pins and hairspray to style then they would require if they were just standing still!”
