Ben Huys

Biography

Ben Huys was born in Ghent, Belgium, and studied at the Municipal Ballet School in Antwerp under the direction of Jos Brabants. In 1985, Huys won the Prix de Lausanne and attended The School of American Ballet in New York City. The following year, he joined New York City Ballet where he danced many principal roles in ballets by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins and Peter Martins. Huys originated the role of Prince Desire in Martins’ production of The Sleeping Beauty. After leaving New York City Ballet in 1996, Huys guested with many companies throughout the world and produced his own group, “Stars of American Ballet,” featuring Principal and Soloist dancers from New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and San Francisco Ballet. Currently, Huys is a répétiteur for the George Balanchine Trust and the Jerome Robbins Rights Trust.
