Elena Markovskaya

Biography

Elena Markovskaya, an architect, artist and costume designer, was born in Moscow and graduated Moscow Art School in 1972 and the Moscow Architectural Institute in 1978. Markovskaya has designed several monuments in Moscow, among which is the prominent memorial to the students of the Moscow Architectural Institute who perished in World War II. A well-known portrait artist, she has participated in numerous Moscow art exhibitions and has had a personal exhibition, The Flames of Paris, at Naschokin Gallery (2008). Her costume designs include The Brothers and Liza at the Mossovet Theatre, Moscow (1998), Princess Turandot for the Katyusha Folk Dance Ensemble, Moscow (2004), Cinderella, Mariinsky Theatre, St.Petersburg (2001), The Bright Stream, Latvian National Opera, Riga (2004) and The Flames of Paris, Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow (2008).
