Julia Trevelyan Oman

Biography

The late Dr. Julia Trevelyan Oman studied at the Royal College of Art in London. She designed for television, West End theatres, the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, Hamburg State Opera, Glyndebourne (Arabella), the Royal Opera (Eugene Onegin, La Bohème,
Die Fledermaus
), The Royal Ballet (Enigma Variations, A Month in the Country, The Nutcracker) and productions in Chichester, Boston, Vienna, New York and Canada. She was elected Royal Designer for Industry in 1977, honored with the CBE in 1986 and an Honorary Doctor of Letters by Bristol University in 1987.

Julia Trevelyan Oman died in October 2003.

The costumes and scenery for A Month in the Country is the first work by Oman to enter American Ballet Theatre’s repertoire.
